Ahkeyajahnique Owens, a 24-year-old from Southern California, faces new charges following two fatal collisions that occurred within months of each other. Owens was out on bail for a prior incident where she allegedly killed a bicyclist on October 6, having previously been involved in a January hit-and-run incident that resulted in the deaths of Gilberto Lopez, 21, and Bobbi Smith, 24, and injured three others.
She surrendered to Long Beach police on Wednesday and was booked on $200,000 bail. The bail amount for the first crash was not specified.
Owens has been connected to both incidents through video and forensic evidence. Police are still investigating the causes of both crashes, and additional charges are expected for the January incident once the case is reviewed by the District Attorney's Office next week.
