Professional boxer Anthony Joshua was injured in a car crash that killed two of his friends, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, on Monday. The crash occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in southwest Nigeria when the Lexus SUV Joshua was traveling in collided with a stationary truck. An eyewitness described the sound of the impact as being like a "bomb blast." Joshua, along with another passenger, was taken to the Duchess International Hospital in Lagos, which has been recognized as Nigeria's best private hospital for the past two years.
Joshua's mother, Yeta Odusanya, has rushed to his bedside at the hospital to be with him during his recovery. Nigeria's president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, confirmed he had spoken with both Joshua and his mother, offering his condolences for the deaths of his friends and reassurance that Joshua is receiving excellent care. The Duchess International Hospital offers specialized VIP suites with round-the-clock one-to-one care, gourmet meals, and luxurious accommodations, with basic packages starting at £2,000. Governor Dapo Abiodun was also with Joshua at the hospital, assuring the president of the boxer's best possible attention.
