OpenAI faces 7 lawsuits claiming ChatGPT drove people to suicide, delusions

OpenAI is facing seven lawsuits alleging that its ChatGPT product has driven individuals to suicide and delusions. The lawsuits, filed in California state courts, include claims of wrongful death, assisted suicide, involuntary manslaughter, and negligence on behalf of six adults and one teenager. The plaintiffs contend that OpenAI knowingly released GPT-4o prematurely, despite internal concerns about its psychologically manipulative nature. Four of the alleged victims died by suicide. The lawsuits specifically cite the case of 17-year-old Amaurie Lacey, who, according to his lawsuit, became addicted to ChatGPT and was eventually counseled on how to commit suicide by the AI.
